Shippensburg, Pa.- Coming off a difficult overtime loss on Wednesday, the Georgian Court University women's lacrosse squad rebounded nicely on Saturday afternoon by edging host-Shippensburg University, 9-8, to earn its first triumph of the 2015 campaign.
The victory evened GCU's record at 1-1 while the Raiders, playing their initial game of the year, fell to 0-1.
Melissa Williams, coming off a six-goal effort vs. St. Thomas Aquinas, put the Lions ahead, 2-0, with tallies at 25:20 and 8:04 of the first half. Shippensburg answered with two straight goals at the 7:30 and 6:43 mark before GCU responded with two of its own at 3:29 and 0:06 to take a slim 4-2 lead into intermission.
Stephanie Gallo deposited the first Georgian Court goal of the second stanza just 44 seconds in, providing the Lions a game-high, three-goal lead at 5-2.
Garrie Grenfell's (Sr.-Hatfield, Pa.) second of three goals on the day put the Raiders to within 6-5Â
with 20:06 remaining in regulation . However, Williams responded with two more goals for GCU at 18:27 and 12:46 to increase the Lions' surplus to 8-5.

Sheila Johnson's (Sr.-Drexel Hill, Pa.) scoring effort at 8:44 to put Shippensburg to within 8-7.
Emily Gialanella fired home the eventual game-winner with just 4:23 remaining, putting the Lions ahead for good at 9-7.
Stephanie Lehner earned the win for GCU in a stellar performance, collecting 13 saves in the complete-game effort.
Ally Frymoyer (Jr.-King of Prussia, Pa.) was saddled with the loss for the Raiders, denying eight shots in 60:00.
The Lions remain on the road with another non-conference showdown this Wednesday when they travel to Molloy College at 6:00 p.m.
