Lakewood, N.J.- The Georgian Court University women's lacrosse team coasted to an 18-6 triumph over visiting Post University Tuesday afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference action.
The win gives the Lions (3-5) two consecutive conference triumphs and improves their mark vs. CACC foes to 2-2. The Eagles (0-8, 0-5 CACC) still seek their first win of the 2015 campaign.
Post took advantage of a sluggish GCU start and grabbed a quick 2-0 lead by the 25-minute mark.
Melissa Williams sliced the deficit to 2-1 with her conference-leading 27th tally at 23:06.Â
The Eagles looked as if they would give the Lions a game when
Miranda Polaski's (Sr.-Agawam, Mass.) second goal of the stanza put Post ahead, 3-1, with 19:24 remaining before the half. Unfortunately, that would not be the case for the visitors as Georgian Court pelted Post with seven consecutive goals to take a commanding 8-3 advantage with 5:47 left before intermission.
Coming out of the break,
Eryka Baez (Sr.-Clifton, N.J.) put the Eagles to within 9-5 at the 29-minute mark, but five unanswered scores from the Lions put the home team ahead 14-5 at 7:46, essentially putting the contest away.  Â
Amanda Cathcart (2-1), the CACC Co-Defensive Player of the Week, enjoyed another outstanding outing in the GCU net, collecting five saves in 60:00 of action. Post's
Kathy Walker (Gr.-Dorchester, Mass.) garnered 10 saves in the losing effort.
Williams dominated the contest with seven goals and 10 assists while
Emily Gialanella and
Taylor Reinecke pitched in two goals and an assist each.
The Lions next travel to Kutztown University Thursday afternoon for a 4:00 p.m. non-conference contest.
