Verona, N.J.- It's just business as usual for the Georgian Court University women's lacrosse squad as the Lions traveled to Caldwell University and defeated the Cougars, 12-7, for their seventh straight victory.
GCU improves to 8-3 overall with a 4-2 record in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action while Caldwell falls to 3-8 on the year (2-5 CACC).
The outcome was never truly in question as the Lions pounced on Caldwell for a 7-0 advantage with 11:00 remaining in the first half. The Cougars got on the board with goals at the 6:37 and 3:41 mark of the initial period, but
Stephanie Gallo's unassisted effort with 0:52 to go in the half provided GCU an 8-2 lead going into intermission.
Caldwell scored the first two tallies of the second stanza, but GCU countered with four unanswered to take a commanding 12-4 lead with 10:24 to go.
Amanda Cathcart provided another solid performance in the Lions' net, collecting 10 saves en route to a 6-1 record.
Both
Silvetta Agosto and
Melissa Williams netted four goals apiece for GCU. Gallo snapped in two of her own.
Georgian Court returns to campus Tuesday to play its final regular-season home game as the Lions host Nyack College at 3:30 p.m. GCU will celebrate the collegiate careers of Cathcart, Gallo,
Emily Gialanella, Kaitlyn Murphy, and
Taylor Reinecke prior to the contest during its annual Senior Day celebration.
