Callie Brown's six points (five goals, one assist) led the way Saturday afternoon as Georgian Court University cruised to its fourth straight victory, a 10-4 final, in non-conference women's lacrosse action vs. Mercy College.
GCU evens its season mark at 5-5 while the Mavericks move to 4-6.
The two squads exchanged one goal apiece over the first 5:13 of action. The Lions, however, were not interested in a back-and-forth affair on this day as GCU rattled off five unanswered tallies to take a comfortable 6-1 advantage with 24:04 left in regulation.
Mercy responded with two scoring efforts over the next nine minutes, but the home team peppered the Mavericks' net with three more consecutive goals to take a comfortable 9-3 lead with just 6:21 remaining.
Amanda Cathcart remained extremely sharp for the Lions in net, permitting just one goal (two saves) in the first 30:00 of action.
Stephanie Lehner played the second half for GCU, collecting three saves (three goals) in 30:00. Cathcart now leads the CACC with a 9.05 goals-against average.Â
Jillian Rocca (So.-Dix Hills, N.Y.) was tagged with the loss for Mercy, permitting five goals (four saves) in the first half (30:00).
Taylor Bauerband added two goals for the Lions while
Kayanna Chandler,
Taylor Reinecke, and
Melissa Williams collected one each.
GCU will next travel to Queens College this Monday for another non-conference outing. Start time is slated for 3:00 p.m.
