Lakewood, N.J.- On what may have certainly been the most miserable lacrosse weather day in the existence of the sport, the Georgian Court women's squad needed overtime Wednesday to extend its winning streak to six as the Lions forced their way past Chestnut Hill College, 15-10.
The Lions, with the victory, improve to 7-5 overall (3-2 CACC) while the Griffins slip to 5-6 (2-2 CACC).
Georgian Court provided some much-needed heat on this blustery, rainy 39-degree day as the Lions jumped out to a 5-0 lead (three from
Callie Brown) in the first 16:33 of action. The Griffins, not to be outdone, rallied for three goals before intermission to climb to within two of the home team.
A
Taylor Reinecke tally 1:14 into the second made it 6-3 Lions, but Chestnut Hill responded with another three-goal rally to even the contest at 6-6 with 16:49 remaining in regulation.
With the two clubs locked in a stalemate for the third time in the period, Brown (with her fifth of six goals on the day) broke the 9-9 lock-up with just 2:59 left. However,
Erica McLaughlin (Fr.-Magnolia, N.J.) spoiled the anticipated victory party for GCU by tying the affair at 2:22, forcing the extra session.
Once in extra time, the contest's ending would mirror its start as the Lions shut out the Griffins, 5-0, in the two three-minute sessions.
Stephanie Lehner, in 36:00 of relief in the GCU net, improved to 2-4 on the season, collecting six overall saves.
Katie Joe Lang (So.-Manassas, Va.) went the distance for the visitors (66:00), tallying eight saves in the outing.
Melissa Williams joined Brown in the scoring ranks with four goals of her own.
Silvetta Agosto contributed two goals and two assists.
GCU takes to the field again Saturday evening with a 7:00 p.m. road game at Caldwell University.
