New Haven, Conn.-The Georgian Court University volleyball squad took to the road for the first time in 2015 Thursday evening as the Lions headed north to the Nutmeg State for a non-conference match-up with Southern Connecticut State University.
The Lions, kicking off a stretch of five games over three nights, enjoyed a stellar start to the trip with a 3-1 win over the host-Owls (23-25, 25-22, 25-21, 25-19). GCU improves to 3-2 on the season while SCSU slips to 2-4.
Plenty of positives were well-documented for the Lions in the final boxscore, highlighted by double-doubles from #
Peggy Rosario# (13 kills, 14 digs) and #
Jessica Sipili# (10 kills, 11 digs). #
Taylor Winchester# (15 kills, nine digs) fell just short of her own double-double effort. Â
Nerishka De La Cruz topped all players with 25 total digs while #
Kelsey Oliver# distributed a team-best 47 assists.
Leanna Jadus (Fr.-Long Beach, Calif.) supplied a double-double for the home team, compiling 14 kills and 11 digs.
Kelly Gunneson (Sr.-Cheshire, Conn.) led the pack with a game-high 16 kills while teammate
Alexandria Jurgens (So.-Cornwall, N.Y.) added 13 for the Owls.
Alexandra Nimz (So.-Littleton, Colo.) dished 49 assists.
Morgan Carman (Sr.-Mesa, Ariz.) controlled 19 digs.Â
GCU will remain in Connecticut as the Lions compete in the Charger Invitational, hosted by the University of New Haven. Georgian Court will take on Queens College (5 p.m.) and Assumption College (7:00 p.m.) Friday, followed by Daemen College (12 p.m.) and UNH (2 p.m.) on Saturday.
