Orangeburg, N.Y.- The Georgian Court University women's soccer squad, making its 2015 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) debut, made quite the statement Saturday afternoon as the Lions took to the road and eased past host-Dominican College, 4-0, as GCU improved to 2-1 (1-0 CACC) on the young season.
Lizzy Kroon, coming off a two-goal effort vs. Pace University on Monday, netted her first-career hat trick in Saturday's victory, the first three-goal game for GCU since teammate
Tayler Bramley accomplished the feat in an 8-0 win at Concordia College on 10/13/14.
The sophomore scoring sensation accounted for the first two tallies on the day, the first coming at 12:50 on a
Melinda MacNeil helper. Kroon would score her second just 34 seconds before intermission (44:26), single-handedly providing the Lions a 2-0 lead at the break.
The aforementioned Bramley made it 3-0 visitors at 55:24 when a
Jessica Constantine assist aided in the junior's first goal on the year. Kroon then proceeded to complete her trifecta after sending in a
Tori Capestro free kick at 59:56.
GCU outshot the 0-2 (0-1 CACC) Lady Chargers, 11-4, while also owning a 5-1 advantage when it came to corner kicks.
Casey O'Connor, the reigning CACC Defensive Player of the Week, secured her first shutout on the year between the GCU pipes, requiring just one save over 90:00 to improve to 2-1 on the year.Â
Georgian Court will next travel to Lincoln University on Wednesday for a 4:00 p.m. non-conference meeting.
