West Haven, Conn.- The Georgian Court University volleyball team journeyed to Connecticut for the second straight day Friday as the Lions faced Queens College and Assumption College on Day One of the University of New Haven's Charger Invitational.
GCU faltered vs. the Knights, 3-1 (28-30, 25-12, 22-25, 16-25), before concluding its evening with a 3-0 blanking of the Greyhounds (25-23, 25-21, 25-18).
In the first match,
Angela Kranz and
Arielle DiCocco (Sr.-Blue Point, N.Y.) topped the Queens offense with 14 and 10 kills, respectively.
Kristen Moore (So.-Medford, N.Y.) authored a double-double consisting of 28 assists and 12 digs.
Taylor Garrett dished 14 assists of her own while
Xhesi Domi (Sr.-Selden, N.Y.) led the Knights (3-2) with 24 digs. Like Moore,
Else Buchmiller (Sr.-Sacramento, Calif.) also controlled 12 digs.
As for the Lions,
Jessica Pedroza enjoyed a nifty double-double of 13 kills and 22 digs in the defeat.
Kelsey Oliver shared a team-high 27 assists.
Nerishka De La Cruz led all players with 26 digs.
In the nightcap vs. Assumption (1-5), #
Kelsie Blue# paced the GCU offense with 11 kills with Oliver leading all players with 32 assists. Four Lions acheived double-digits in the digs category, led by Pedroza's 16. De La Rosa settled 12 in the match while #
Peggy Rosario and
Jessica Sipili# enjoyed 10 apiece.
Georgian Court will next take the floor Saturday at noon vs. Daemen College before concluding the event vs. host-New Haven at 2:00 p.m.
