Lafayette Hill, Pa.- For the second straight outing, the Georgian Court University men's soccer squad stunned their opponent in the late-minutes as the Lions escaped Chestnut Hill College with a 2-2 tie vs. the Griffins Tuesday night in an intense Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) showdown.
The draw evens the Lions' overall record at 2-2-2 and keeps them undefeated in conference play (1-0-2). Chestnut Hill climbs above .500 at 3-2-2 and also remains unbeaten vs. CACC foes (2-0-2).
It was the
Arturo Sanchez show for GCU as the freshman netted both of the Lions' tallies in the thriler. As the home team exited the other end of intermission with a 1-0 lead after an initial goal at 38:11, Sanchez netted the equalizer in the early minutes of the second stanza (46:17), courtesy of a cross from
Garrett McVeigh.
Chestnut Hill's
Nicholas Jaffe (Sr.-San Paulo, Brazil), the owner of the Griffins' first goal, again found the back of the net, providing CHC with a favorable 2-1 advantage at 63:43. Sanchez, not to be outdone, countered with his first career multi-goal effort when he followed his own shot and drilled a rebound to secure the tie at 79:41.
In a contest loaded with scoring efforts, the Griffins outshot the Lions by a margin of 29-24.
Aleksander Milosevic improved to 2-1-2 in the GCU net with a season-high 11 saves, including five in the overtime sessions.
GCU looks to improve its program-best unbeaten streak to five games this Saturday when the Lions stay in-conference with a road match at Nyack College.
