vs. Le MoyneLakewood, N.J.- The Georgian Court University volleyball squad, hosting day one of its 2nd Annual GCU Invitational Saturday in the Wellness Center, opened the 2015 campaign with contests vs. Roberts Wesleyan College and Le Moyne College.
The Lions (1-1) split on the day, first blanking RWC, 3-0 (25-11, 25-17, 25-21), before succumbing to the Le Moyne Dolphins, 3-1 (23-25, 22-25 25-20,16-25).
Kelsie Blue,
Jennifer Smith, and
Taylor Winchester paced the GCU offense in the victory vs. the Redhawks as the trio garnered seven kills apiece.
Kelsey Oliver picked up right where she left off a season ago, pacing the Lions with 20 assists. Newcomer
Nerishka Cruz De La Rosa topped all players with her 13 digs.
As for Roberts Wesleyan (0-2),
Kate Steger (Sr.-Hilton, N.Y.),
Courtney Taylor (So.-Spring, Tex.), and
Anjali Thomson (Jr.-Mission Viejo, Calif.) each distributed a team-best five kills.
Elisabeth Rivera (So.-Garden Grove, Calif.) and
Allison Vannest (Fr.-Churchville, N.Y.) dished 10 assists apiece while
Rebekah Sanchez (Jr.-Haverstraw, N.Y.) gathered five digs.
In the Lions second match on the day, Smith and Winchester each put down eight kills in the losing effort while Oliver dished a match-best 27 assists. Cruz De La Rosa added another 19 digs in the outing while teammate
Peggy Rosario controlled 10 of her own.
Le Moyne's (2-0)
Natalie Casson (Jr.-Kingman, Ariz.) led the Dolphins with her 10 kills while completing a double-double with 13 digs.Â
Kendall Corcoran (So.-Ft. Salonga, N.Y.) authored a double-double of her own consisting of 19 assists and 10 digs.
Mikayla Porr (Fr.-Massapequa, N.Y.) dominated in the digs column with a total of 35 while teammate
Andrea Buchanan (Jr.-Hamburg, N.Y.) controlled 14.Â
Georgian Court is back at it Sunday morning with a 10:00 a.m. match vs. Stonehill College before concluding the day at 2:00 p.m. with a dual vs. Mercy College.
