Philadelphia, Pa.- Georgian Court University, in what now qualifies as the signature victory in the short three-season history of the Lions' men's basketball program, hit the road Wednesday night and upset CACC divisional-rival University of the Sciences, 73-66, on the floor of Bobby Morgan Arena.
The triumph also provides GCU with its first-ever three-game winning streak while improving the Lions to 5-14 (4-8 CACC) on the year. With the setback, USciences slips to 11-8 overall (8-4 CACC).
In a game that was not for the faint of heart, both squads battled to eight stalemates and five lead changes throughout the affair. It was ultimately GCU that would secure the lead for good after a
Juwuan Carter lay-up broke a 62-62 tie with just 1:52 left on the clock.
GCU's
Keith Hughes led the Lions' charge with his team-best 18 points and nine boards, while shooting a sensational 12-for-12 from the charity stripe. Carter added 14 points and three steals in 33 minutes.
Nikola Vujovic cracked double-digits with his 10 points.
USciences sophomore,
Will Gregorits (Burke, Va.) presented a solid double-double effort of 22 points and 13 boards while
Sho Da-Silva (Sr.-Moorestown, N.J.) just missed his own double-double with 12 points and nine rebounds.
T-John Casiello (Sr.-Wildwood Crest, N.J.) contributed 11 points and four assists for the Devils.
Flo Da-Silva (So.-Moorestown, N.J.) added 10 points.
The Lions look to keep the streak alive when they return home this Saturday afternoon to host Post University at 3:00 p.m.
