Lakewood, N.J.- The Georgian Court University men's soccer squad remains unbeaten on home turf (4-0-1) as the Lions gutted out a 1-1 stalemate vs. visiting Caldwell University on Homecoming Saturday to earn a crucial point in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) standings.
The scoreboard would remain blank until the 55th minute (54:02) when
Darren Appanah (Fr.-Enfield, England) connected on a
Joaquin Escudero (So.-San Sebastian, Spain) cross to put the vistors ahead, 1-0.
The Caldwell advantage proved to be short-lived as GCU's
Elliot Baldwin headed home a
Garrett McVeigh corner kick at 67:26 to knot the score at 1-1. For Baldwin, the goal marked the second of the senior's career, both of which have come on Homecoming Day (10/3/15 vs. Felician).
In a contest that provided an abundance of scoring opportunities for both clubs, The Lions doubled up the Cougars, 28-14, in the shots column.
Aleksander Milosevic corralled five saves in 110:00 for GCU while Caldwell's
Fritz Meister (Jr.-Flaach, Switzerland) grabbed nine of his own in the effort.
Georgian Court now heads to Wilmington University this Wednesday for another challenging CACC contest. Start time is set for 3:30 p.m.
