Lakewood, N.J.- The Georgian Court University men's soccer squad continues its magical journey as the #2 Lions, in their first-ever postseason contest, defeated #7 Philadelphia University, 1-0, Tuesday afternoon in the 2016 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) quarterfinals.
GCU (12-5-1) now prepares for #3 Wilmington University, which upset #6 Goldey-Beacom by a 3-0 margin. The Lions and Wildcats will take their cat fight to the pitch this Friday morning at 11:00 a.m. for a semifinal contest that is slated to be played in Georgian Court's Track & Field Complex (turf field).
The Rams (6-10-2) and Lions played scoreless soccer until the 63rd minute when All-CACC first team selection,
Michael Clarke, blasted his roster-leading eighth goal of the year as the senior sent in an
Andres Adum helper for what would become the game-winning tally.
The home team dominated the shot column with a 15- 3 margin while securing a slim 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Reigning CACC Defensive Player of the Week,
Sebastian Mikuska, continues to dazzle in the Georgian Court net as the senior shot-stopper improves to 6-0 overall in as many starts. The GCU keeper gathered two saves over 90:00 to earn his fifth shut out of the season.
Georgian Court lost its lone meeting vs. Wilmington University during the regular season, dropping a 2-1 road decision to the Wildcats back on Oct. 5.
