Lakewood, N.J.- The 2016 campaign came to an abrupt close for the Georgian Court University women's volleyball squad Tuesday evening as the #2-seed (South Division) Lions dropped a 3-1 decision to #3 (North Division) Caldwell University in the 2016 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Volleyball Championship Tournament quarterfinals.
GCU (18-17) struck the initial blow of the match as the home team secured the first set by a score of 27-25. The Cougars (22-10) responded by outlasting Georgian Court in the second and third sets with wins of 25-20 and 25-23, respectively, before closing out the tournament triumph with a 25-17 dismissal of the Lions in the fourth-and-final frame.
Caldwell now advances to the CACCÂ Tournament semifinal round this Saturday (3:30 p.m.) with a divisional showdown vs. #1-seed (and two-time defending champs) Post University in a match hosted by Wilmington University.

Jessica Pedroza, playing her final collegiate game, highlighted the GCU box score with her fourth double-double of the season (11 kills, 14 digs).
Peggy Rosario came within a lone dig (12 kills, 9 digs) of her 13th double-double on the year.
Kelsey Oliver distributed 36 assists in her last effort for the Lions.
On the defensive front, All-CACC first-teamer,
Kelsie Blue, gathered five blocks (two solo) to cap a stupendous college career.
Janelli Torres collected a match-best 25 digs whileÂ
Gaby Merced registered 17 of her own.
