Lakewood, N.J.- The Georgian Court University women's lacrosse squad, after a furious second-half comeback, simply ran out of time Thursday afternoon as the Lions came up just short vs. visiting Frankling Pierce University, 14-12.

The Ravens, representing the Northeast-10 Conference, remains perfect on the season at 3-0 while GCU continues (0-5) to seek its first victory.

FPU immediately took action with three tallies in the first 6:24 of action, but the Lions answered right back with three of their own to knot the score with 18:54 remaining in the first. The two teams would each net an additional goal before the Ravens rattled off six unanswered to take a seemingly commanding 10-4 advantage with 5:09 left before intermission.

Georgian Court cut the deficit to 10-6 with a pair, but Franklin Pierce countered with two of its own to coast into the break, up 12-6.

The Lions dominated the second session, outscoring their opponent, 6-2. GCU slipped to within two of the Ravens after three straight goals during the final 13 minutes of regulation, but the FPU defense was able to fight off the Georgian Court surge by keeping the ball out of the net over the last 8:24 of action.

Briana Sweeney (So.-Shirley, N.Y.) topped the victors with her five goals while teammate Lauren Beville (Sr.-Jamesville, N.Y.) provided a balanced attack consisting of three goals and three assists. GCU's Melissa Williams compiled seven points, including five goals and two assists. Samantha Fernandez poured in a pair of goals for the Lions.

Denise Hunt (Jr.-Hull, Mass.) earned the "W" in the Ravens' net, collecting four saves in the complete-game effort. Stephanie Lehner registered nine denials in 58:25 for GCU.

The Lions next head to Pennsylvania on Thursday, March 24 with a 4:00 pm road contest at West Chester University.
