West Chester, Pa.- The Georgian Court University women's lacrosse squad journeyed to West Chester University Thursday afternoon where the Lions dropped an 18-4 decision to the #9-ranked Golden Rams.
Unfortunately for GCU, the contest got out of hand early as the home team poured in the first nine goals to secure a commanding 9-0 advantage with 9:02 remaining in the first half. The Lions got on the board with consecutive goals by
Melissa Williams (8:26) and
Xena Valenzuela (7:29), but the Golden Rams would proceed to blow open the lead with eight straight tallies to go up, 17-2, with 13:42 remaining.
Williams registered two goals for the Lions and assisted Valenzuela on her effort, marking the 100th assist of the senior's stellar collegiate career.
Callie Brown accounted for the Lions' remaining goal.
West Chester's
Dina Cifelli (Jr.-Robbinsville, N.J.) dominated with eight points, including two goals and six assists, while three other Golden Rams contributed four points apiece.
Paige Mitros (So.-Glens Mills, Pa.) improved to 7-1 in the West Chester net with three saves over 60:00.
Stephanie Lehner was tagged with the defeat for GCU, compiling 16 saves in 51:02.
Things do not get easier for Georgian Court as the Lions now head to Dowling College for a 4:00 p.m. showdown on Saturday afternoon.
