Shirley, N.Y.- Georgian Court University traveled to Dowling College Saturday afternoon, suffering a 17-6 defeat at the hands of the Golden Lions in non-conference women's lacrosse competition.
GCU still seeks its first triumph (0-7) while host-Dowling increased its overall mark to 7-1 on the season.
The Golden Lions jumped out to an initial 5-0 surplus before tallies by
Taylor Bauerband and
Melissa Williams winnowed the deficit to 5-2. Dowling would answer with four more scores to carry a comfortable 9-2 advantage into intermission.
Georgian Court opened the second stanza by netting four of the first seven goals of the session to slice the Golden Lions' lead to 12-6 with 10:27 remaining, but Dowling dropped in five unanswered over the final 9:27 to secure the comfortable victory.
Brooke Kreuscher (Jr.-Bayport, N.Y.) led the Dowling charge with three goals and five assists while
Alyssa Milano (Jr.-Rocky Point, N.Y.) showed Georgian Court who's the boss with her four goals and one helper.
Williams netted three of the Lions' six tallies, while aiding on the three others. Bauerband collected two goals while
Silvetta Agosto secured one of her own.
Lauren Young (Jr.-Centereach, N.Y.) registered the victory in Dowling's net, grabbing four saves in the process.
Stephanie Lehner denied 16 shots in 60:00 for GCU.
The Lions commence CACC conference play Wednesday afternoon with a 4:30 p.m. road game at rival-Philadelphia University.
