Lakewood, N.J.- The Georgian Court University women's lacrosse squad, fresh off its travels to Florida, dropped a 16-7 decision to visiting East Stroudsburg University in Saturday's 2016 home opener.
GCU, after two setbacks in the Sunshine State earlier in the week, falls to 0-3 on the young campaign. The Warriors improve to 3-0 with the non-conference road win.
East Stroudsburg wasted no time with its attack, jumping out to an initial 9-0 advantage by the 6:25 mark of the first half. The Lions finally got its motors running with three goals to end the initial stanza, including two courtesy of
Callie Brown.
After the two clubs alternated goals to kick off the second, the Warriors netted the next four tallies to solidify a commanding 14-4 surplus with 18:27 remaining in regulation.
Lauren Nunes (Sr.-Phillipsburg, N.J.) led the charge for East Stroudsburg with her two goals and four assists.
Kaitlynn Wiltraut (Bethlehem, Pa.) followed with her three goals and two helpers.
Coming off a six-goal effort on Tuesday vs. the University of Findlay,
Melissa Williams provided six points (four assists, two goals) for GCU on this day. Brown presented a hat trick for the Lions in the losing effort.
Jessica Maxwell (Jr.-Oceanside, N.Y.) earned the win for ESU with six saves on 17 Georgian Court shots (58:00). GCU's
Stephanie Lehner was saddled with the defeat as the senior keeper personally denied 15 of ESU's 30 shots.
The Lions trek back on the road this Wednesday with a 1:00 pm non-conference showdown at St. Thomas Aquinas College.
