Lafayette Hill, Pa.- In a key Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) women's lacrosse contest, host Chestnut Hill College edged the visiting Georgian Court University Lions, 6-5, Wednesday evening to remain unbeaten (5-0) in conference play.
Samantha Fernandez and
Melissa Williams each netted early goals to provide GCU (3-9, 3-2 CACC) with an early 2-0 lead with 23:55 remaining in the first half. The Griffins (7-5) exploded with four straight scores to enter intermission with a fragile 4-2 advantage.
The Lions attacked halfway through the second session with a three-goal flurry to take a slim 5-4 surplus with 8:39 remaining. The euphoria would be short-lived for the Lions as the Griffins established a 5-5 stalemate at the 6:41 mark, followed by the eventual game-winner with 5:48 left.
Fernandez and Williams provided two goals each for the Lions while
Kayanna Chandler sent home the remaining tally.
Stephanie Lehner was the tough-luck loser in net for GCU, collecting 10 saves in the complete-game.
Georgian Court now heads home to take on Caldwell University this Saturday at noon.
