Lakewood, N.J.- The Georgian Court University women's lacrosse squad suffered its second straight single-goal setback Saturday afternoon as the Lions dropped a 12-11 decision to Caldwell University in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action.
The loss puts the Lions at 3-3 (3-10 overall) in conference play while the Cougars improve to 5-2 (5-6 overall).
After
Pamela Schenck (So.-East Moriches, NY) netted a game-tying goal (6-6) with one second remaining in the first half, Caldwell exploded for four straight to start the second stanza, building a mighty 10-6 advantage with 24:12 remaining.Â
GCU would pour in four of the next five efforts to slip to within one (11-10) with 11:41 left, but it would be Schenck striking again as the sophomore supplied the needed breathing room for Caldwell by draining a free-position shot with 6:16 to go, putting the Cougars ahead, 12-10.
Five different Cougars registered two goals apiece with Schenck and
Maryellen McCarthy (Fr.-Levittown, NY) compiling four points apiece.
Melissa Williams and
Callie Brown shined for GCU with respective hat tricks while
Samantha Fernandez contributed a pair of goals and a helper.
Elizabeth Ruedemann (Fr.-Monmouth Junction, NJ) earned the Caldwell in net, collecting 10 saves in 60:00.
Stephanie Lehner was on the wrong end of the ledger, garnering two saves in the complete-game effort.
The Lions next play Tuesday afternoon (3:30 p.m.) with a CACC road contest at Post University.
