Lakewood, N.J.- Mercy College made a trip south Wednesday afternoon to take on Georgian Court University in a non-conference women's lacrosse contest. The Mavericks departed with their 10th win of the campaign (10-4) after dismissing the host-Lions by a count of 17-7.
After a first half that saw GCU (4-11) staying within striking range at 9-5, Mercy came out and completely owned the second stanza by an 8-2 margin to ease to the finish line and the victory.
Melissa Williams and
Samantha Fernandez each collected a pair of goals and a helper while
Callie Brown provided a goal and an assist in the Georgian Court setback.
Amber Neumann, in her first collegiate start, provided a gallant effort in the GCU net by personally denying 17 Mercy missiles in the loss.
The Lions return to conference action this Sunday with a noontime home contest vs. Felician University.
