Lakewood, N.J.- The Georgian Court University women's lacrosse squad, playing its second straight Saturday morning contest, came out energized on this particular day as the Lions coasted to a 17-4 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) triumph over visiting Wilmington University.
The victory marks GCU's third in a row, bumping the Lions to 3-8 overall (3-1 CACC) while the Wildcats slip to 2-8 (2-2 CACC) on the year.
Melissa Williams and
Samantha Fernandez put the home team ahead, 2-0, with individual tallies to start the affair. Wilmington would pop in two of the next three scoring chances to cut its deficit to 3-2 at 24:48.
Taylor Bauerband proceeded to provide her two goals of the game in succession, increasing the GCU lead to 5-2 at 21:08.
The Wildcats got to within two (3-2) with a goal at 19:21, but that would be as close as the visitors would get the rest of the way as the Lions proceeded to drop a seven-spot on their guest to take a commanding 12-3 lead with 6:17 remaining in the first half.
GCU would keep Wilmington scoreless in the second stanza, outscoring the Wildcats, 5-0, en route to the "W".
Callie Brown paced the Lions with her game-high eight points, which included three goals and five assists. The gritty senior achieved a personal milestone at 17:05 in the first as she connected on the 100th goal of her collegiate career.

Xena Valenzuela drained a hat trick with her three goals.
Silvetta Agosto and
Kayanna Chandler joined Bauerband (two goals, assist) with multi-goal efforts in the win.
Stephanie Lehner earned her third straight win in the Georgian Court net, registering six saves in 47:36.
The Lions will next take the turf on Wednesday evening with a 7:00 p.m. conference contest at Chestnut Hill College.
