Bloomfield, N.J.- The Georgian Court University women's soccer squad returned to familiar territory Saturday afternoon ... the win column. After dropping their first two contests of 2016, the Lions addressed the matter in an efficient matter yesterday with a 3-0 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) triumph at Bloomfield College.
After a scoreless first half, it would be some of GCU's young blood that would step up and give the offense a necessary jolt. The first strike came at 56:27 when freshman
Kaitlin Lister deposited her first collegiate goal, sending a
Melinda MacNeil feed past the goalkeeper's left side. Lister would step up again 30 minutes later (86:26) when she supplied the pass that freshman
Dana Fontana would club in off the keeper's hands to provide the visitors a 2-0 advantage.
Amanda Astudillo would tie a bow on the Georgian Court victory just 1:55 later (88:21) when the junior buried a rebound into the back of the Bloomfield net, again courtesy of another Lister helper.
The Lions outshot the Bears, 20-5, and dominated in the corners with an 11-1 advantage.
Freshman
Natalie Axelsson earned her first career victory between the GCU pipes as she collected two saves in the complete-game effort.Â
There will be no time to celebrate, however, as the Lions travel home to take on the defending CACC champions, Philadelphia University, Wednesday afternoon (3:30 p.m.) on Investors Savings Bank Field.
