Lakewood, N.J.- Coming off its first conference blemish Wednesday at Goldey-Beacom College, the Georgian Court University men's soccer squad returned to its winning ways Saturday with a 2-0 shutout of visiting Nyack College on a day the Lions celebrated NJ Youth Soccer Appreciation Day.
The victory pushes the Lions above the .500 mark at 4-3 (4-1 CACC) while the Warriors wilt to 2-6 (1-3 CACC).
Arturo Sanchez got the home team on the board first at 28:18 when the sophomore stabbed a
Michael Clarke cross with a dazzling diving header to put the Lions ahead, 1-0. Georgian Court's second tally came at 65:34 when senior
Ryan Peters ran into a rebound of an initial shot from
George Kavarakas that had caromed off the post. The tally marks the first career scoring effort for Peters.
Aleksander Milosevic returned to the Lions' net for the first time in five outings, and earned his first win in the process, as the senior collected one save in the victory. GCU outshot the road team, 7-3, in a low-shooting affair.
Georgian Court, which sits solo atop the CACC standings, returns to the pitch Tuesday afternoon when they host Lock Haven University at 3:30 p.m.
