Bloomfield, N.J. - The 2017 campaign came to an abrupt close for the Georgian Court University men's soccer squad Monday afternoon at Foley Field as the #5-seed Lions dropped a 1-0 decision to #4 Bloomfield College in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) quarterfinals.
The 2016 CACCÂ tournament champions end the year with a solid 10-6-2 record. The Bears, with the victory (12-3-2), now move on to the semifinal round this Friday vs. #1 Jefferson University. The Rams defeated #8 Caldwell University, 1-0, in its quarterfinal contest. #2 Goldey-Beacom College will take on #6 Post University in the other semifinal match (hosted by Georgian Court University).
After a scoreless first half, Bloomfield broke the stalemate in the 70th minute (69:01) when
Nicholas Calabia (So.-Palisades Park, N.J.) sent in a
Warwick Sterling (So.-Lauderhill, Fla.)Â cross to give the Bears a one-goal surplus.Â
Even with a 14-9 shot advantage (5-4 shots-on-goal), Georgian Court was unable to penetrate the Bloomfield net.
Jovan Stanojkovic (Sr.-Pancevo, Serbia) earned the postseason victory in goal for the Bears (five saves).
Yianni Kavarakas tallied three saves in the complete-game effort for GCU.
