Newark, Del.- The Georgian Court University women's volleyball squad's postseason push came to a sudden halt Saturday afternoon as the Lions dropped a 3-1 decision to #1-seed (and reigning champion) Jefferson in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship Tournament semifinals (hosted by Wilmington University).
After GCU swiped the first set by a 25-19 count, the Lady Rams rallied to leave the #3S Lions in the dust with consecutive wins of 25-11, 25-21 and 27-25. Jefferson (26-6) now moves on to play Caldwell University (#1 North) in Sunday's championship game after the Cougars dismissed #2S Holy Family, 3-1, in the other semifinal showdown.
Shana Rayside and
Amy Bruno concluded the campaign with a team-best 11 kills apiece while the duo also topped the roster with six and four blocks, respectively. Ashley Pierson put an exclamation point on her initial collegiate campaign with 35 assists.
Gaby Merced collected 29 digs, followed by
Aubrey Binkley (17) and
Paula Cespedes (12).
The Lions (14-20) end the year after reaching the CACC semifinals for the first time since 2014.
