Rochester, N.Y. - The Georgian Court University men's basketball squad, playing its first of two contests in upstate New York this weekend, took the floor against Roberts Wesleylan College Saturday evening in non-conference competition. The host-Redhawks got the best of the visiting Lions,defeating their guest by a 72-61 decision.
Roberts Wesleyan owned the lead for a majority of the first half, maxing out with an 18-point surplus with 6:21 remaining before halftime. After heading into the locker room with a 36-23 deficit, the Lions (0-4) rallied to win the second session, 38-36, but the outcome had already been solidified.
GCU outshot the 4-0 Redhawks from the floor (40.4% to 37.5%), but RWC owned a 15-6 rebound advantage on the offensive glass, resulting in 12 key second-chance points.
Isaiah Lewis (So.-Churchville, N.Y.) paced the Roberts Wesleyan offense with his game-high 20 points, which included a perfect 9-for-9 from the charity stripe.
Brad Williams (Jr.-Henrietta, N.Y.) added 15 points in 20 minutes off the Redhawks' bench.
Nikola Vujovic buried a team-best 18 points for Georgian Court, shooting 7-for-10 in 22 minutes off the bench.
Caleb Bowser collected 10+ points for the fourth straight game to start the season as the sophomore deposited 17 points in the effort.
Juwuan Carter contributed 10 points of his own for the Lions.
Georgian Court concludes its two-day getaway Sunday afternoon with a 2:00 p.m. match-up vs. Mercy College (hosted by Roberts Wesleyan).
