Philadelphia, Pa. - The Georgian Court University men's basketball squad continues to compete every time out. Tuesday evening was no different as the Lions put a major scare into the University of the Sciences in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) divisional action.
The host-Devils, who have lost to GCU in each of the previous two campaigns, came extremely close to making it a third straight season as USciences escaped with a slim 61-58 conference triumph.
After coming out of intermission with a 29-28 deficit, Georgian Court controlled the tempo to start the second half, building a nine-point lead (47-38) with 8:37 remaining in regulation. A
Juwuan Carter three-pointer put the road warriors ahead by six (50-44) with just 5:49 left.
USciences (6-3, 2-0 CACC) proceeded to drop a 7-0 spurt on its guest to take a one-point, 51-50 lead at the 3:45 mark. With each team exchanging blow after blow,
Caleb Bowser's jumper at 1:09 put the Lions up by three (56-53). Unfortunately for GCU, the Devils scorched the Lions with an 8-2 sprint to the final horn, leaving Georgian Court aghast.
The Lions (44.9%) out-shot the home team (31.5%) from the floor, but the Devils made up for it with 14 second-chance points and 20 points off 20 Georgian Court turnovers.
Paddy Casey (Fr.-Scranton, Pa.) topped the victors with 15 points on the night while
Flo Da-Silva (Sr.-Moorestown, N.J.) contributed a double-double effort of 13 points and 10 boards.
Brendan Crawford (Jr.-Haddonfield, N.J.) also added 13 points while
Will Gregorits (Sr.-Burke, Va.) dropped in 10 in the victory.
Bowser led the Lions (and all players) with his 22 points on the night, shooting 10-of-15 from the field. Carter drained 16 points to go along with five helpers.
GCU (0-10, 0-2 CACC) takes an extended break and will not return to the floor again until Tuesday, December 19 vs. Goldey-Beacom College. Tip-off is set for 8:00 p.m. in the Wellness Center.
