Box Score Lakewood, N.J.- The frigid temps and the howling winds couldn't slow down the Georgian Court University women's lacrosse team's red-hot offensive attack Wednesday afternoon as the Lions had their way with visiting Caldwell University en route to a comfortable 15-4 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory.
With the game-time temperature in the mid 30's and a wind chill in the low 20's, both teams needed some time to get into the flow of the game. It was Caldwell's
Arden Kassaleh (Fr.-Pompton Plains, N.J.) who got the Cougars on the board at 25:08 of the first half. The Lions responded with a
Lauren Onnembo equalizer just 3:26 later. Caldwell would break the tie as
Pamela Schneck (Jr.-East Moriches, N.Y.) put the Cougars ahead by the score of 2-1 at 20:14. That would be the last time Caldwell would lead as the GCU offense finished the first half with five unanswered goals, providing the home team a 6-2 lead at the break.
The Lions (2-6, 1-0 CACC) picked up right where they left off, outscoring the Cougars (1-2, 0-1 CACC) by a 9-2 count in the second stanza.
Samantha Fernandez (5 goals) and
Arianna Quinlan (4 goals) were the driving force for the GCU offense as the team tied their season-high of 15 goals (3/17 vs. Northern Michigan).
The Georgian Court defense, led by goalkeeper
Amber Neumann, stifled the Cougar attack all game. The sophomore shot-stopper was top notch between the pipes, collecting 10 saves in the victory. GCU outshot Caldwell, 43-15.
Georgian Court will return to the turf this Saturday when Felician University visits for an 11:00 a.m. conference contest. It will be a homecoming for the Golden Falcons' coach,
Natalie Bermudez, who was a member of the GCU women's lacrosse team from 2007-2010.
