Box Score Lakewood, N.J.- As the sun shined down for the first time this week, the Georgian Court University women's lacrosse team welcomed in the spring atmosphere with a picturesque performance against the visiting Griffins from Chestnut Hill College. This was the first meeting between the two clubs since the 2016 CACC tournament semifinals when the Griffins defeated Georgian Court, 14-10. The outcome was strikingly different this time around as the Lions avenged that result with a strong 17-7 triumph to improve to 3-0 (4-6 overall) in conference play.
Samantha Fernandez got GCU's high-powered offense off to a good start just 50 seconds into the game by connecting on goal #33 of the season. Chestnut Hill's
Julia Galantich (Jr.-Clinton Corners, N.Y.) made the score 1-1 at 26:19 of the first half. The Lions would continue to apply pressure to the Griffins (1-7, 1-1 CACC) by scoring seven of the half's next eight tallies and enter halftime with an 8-2 advantage.
The Lions played the second half in cruise control, outscoring their opponent by a 9-5 count. GCU's offense was balanced as seven different Lions were credited with goals on the afternoon. Fernandez led the way with five,
Arianna Quinlan chipped in with four, and
Nicole Barbella,
Xena Valenzuela and
Angelina Palermo each netted a pair.
Taylor Bauerband and
Lauren Onnembo also got in on the action with a goal apiece.
In net, GCU's
Amber Neumann made seven saves in the victory, the sophomore's fourth of the season.
Georgian Court will look to win its fourth in a row on Saturday as they head to the city of Brotherly Love to match up with Holy Family University at 12:00 p.m..
