Box Score Dobbs Ferry, NY- The Georgian Court University women's lacrosse squad was unable to reign in the undefeated Mavericks of Mercy College this afternoon as the home team came away with a hard fought 16-8 triumph over the visiting Lions (0-4).
Mercy's
Emily Jehle opened the game's scoring to put the Mavericks (4-0) up early at 24:23 in the first half.. GCU's
Xena Valenzuela quickly answered right back just 25 seconds later to level the score at 1-1.
Mercy's offense would explode for three goals in under a minute, opening up a 4-1 advantage.with 22:21 to go in the period.
Samantha Fernandez would put a stop to the Mercy run with her team leading 13th goal of the season at 22:02. After
Brittani Sergio added another goal for the Mavericks at 21:38, it was the Lions' chance to turn up the offense. GCU's attack would net four consecutive tallies, starting with Fernandez's second of the game at 21:14, giving the Lions their first lead at 6-5. The advantage would be short -lived as Mercy were able to finish the half by responding with four goals of their own, giving the Mavericks a 9-6 lead at the intermission.
Georgian Court came out of the break looking to come back on the Mavericks, but it was not to be as the Mercy defense stifled the Lions vaunted attack, allowing only two goals to the visitors.
Hunter Isnardi and
Alexa Haines lead the way for the Mavericks with five goals and four goals, respectively.
Taylor Bauerband paced the Lions with three goals while Fernandez and Valenzuela each scored a pair.

Jillian Rocco, in relief of Mercy starter
Shianne Judson, was credited with the win after saving six Lions' shots on net.Â
Georgian Court will look to rebound from today's game when they return to the friendly confines of the GCU turf complex on Monday March 13th to welcome McKendree University (Ill.) to Lakewood. The game is set for 3pm.
