Box Score Lakewood, N.J.- The Georgian Court University women's lacrosse squad, seeking the third Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) championship (2010, 2011) in program history, earned the opportunity to bring home the banner as the #1-seed Lions defeated #4 Chestnut Hill College, 17-10, in Saturday semifinals action (hosted by GCU).
The Lions, winners of 11 straight contests, will host #3 Philadelphia University in the CACC title game Sunday (12:00 p.m.). The Lady Rams advanced Saturday after upsetting #2 Dominican College, 16-15, in an overtime thriller.Â
GCU and Chestnut Hill (7-11) exchanged a goal each to start the contest before the Lions secured four of the next five scoring attempts to take a 5-2 lead with 14:20 to go in the first half. The two teams would alternate the next four tallies as Georgian Court glided into intermission ahead 7-4.
Things quickly got out hand in the second stanza as the eventual victors exploded for seven of the half's eight initial goals to take an insurmountable 14-5 advantage with 17:03 remaining. The Griffins would outscore GCU, 5-3, the rest of the way, but the Lions' date with destiny was already established.
