Lions Best West Chester, 4-3, in OT ... Complete PSAC Road Trip Undefeated

Box Score West Chester, Pa. - The Georgian Court University men's soccer squad, playing its third straight road contest vs. a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) foe, will return home unscathed as the Lions stunned West Chester University Sunday afternoon with a 4-3 overtime victory.

GCU (2-0-1) played to a double-overtime scoreless tie Thursday at Lock Haven before upending Bloomsburg University, 1-0, Saturday afternoon.

The visitors came out hungry and established a 2-0 lead in the first half, courtesy of goals from newcomers Joel Quist and Quentin Bouly. Quist slid and connected on a Bouly cross to put away the initial goal at 37:26 before Bouly found the back of the net himself just 48 seconds later (38:14) with a chip over the WCU keeper.

West Chester (1-1) responded in the second half with three unanswered tallies to steal the lead away from its guest at the 70:42 mark of the contest. The home team's advantage would hold strong until the 85th minute (84:51) when Spencer Dunn buried a loose ball in the box to knot the score at 3-3 with just 5:09 remaining in regulation (84:51).

The Lions, playing their second extra-session match of the young season, looked destined for an additional OT period until Vinicius Monteiro brought the game to a sudden conclusion as the transfer junior beat a diving West Chester keeper to the right to secure the road triumph with just 35 seconds remaining in the first 10:00 frame (99:25).

Bouly, Monteiro and Quist each registered the first goals of their GCU careers.

Georgian Court owned a slight 14-13 shot advantage, which included a 9-5 surplus in shots-on-goal.

Yianni Kavarakas, coming off two shutout performances in net to start the year, secured his second win for the Lions as the sophomore secured two saves between the pipes in the complete-game effort.

"The team showed a lot of character for it being so early in the season," stated Georgian Court head coach Dino Raso. "We are pleased with the progress of this rebuilt team. They have had to deal with a lot of games early and have responded very well."

Fans will have the opportunity to see their Lions take the home pitch for the first time this Wednesday as GCU welcomes the University of New Haven to campus for a 2:00 p.m. non-conference showdown.
