Second-Half Surge Provides Dominican College 83-77 Comeback Win Over Georgian Court

Orangeburg, N.Y. - Trailing by 13 at the half, the Lady Chargers outscored Georgian Court University by 14 in the third quarter (27-13) en route to an 83-77 comeback victory Sunday afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) competition.

The visiting Lions (3-14, 1-9 CACC) opened the affair with a flourish as GCU outscored the home team, 22-9, in the initial period. Both clubs netted 21 points in the second quarter as Georgian Court maintained its 13-point advantage heading into intermission.

After the Lady Chargers (6-11, 5-4 CACC) planted its 27-point counterpunch square on the chin of the Lions, neither team would lead by more than three points in the fourth frame until a pair of Rebecca Rabeiro (Sr.-Midland Park, N.J.) free throws put Dominican ahead by five (82-77) with 34 seconds to play.

An Alpreshia Parker (Jr.-Pocono Summit, Pa.) free throw with 12 ticks left iced the win for Dominican as the victors closed the contest on an 8-0 run.

"We are a better team this year, but not yet poised enough to maintain leads and close out games," stated GCU head coach Jazz Perazic. "I cannot be upset about our desire to work, to get better, to win or about our overall physical effort." We. however, must start to understand the importance of the mental part of the game ... especially mental focus, discipline and poise. It was a tough loss but we will self-evaluate, get back in the gym, get better and get ready for our next game."

Five players netted over ten points for the Lady Chargers, topped by Rabeiro's 17. Georgian Court's Carna Prokic led all scorers with her 21 points, complementing four steals and four assists from the junior. Jaelyn Tweedy dropped in 17 points for the Lions while Nerea Brajac and Destiny Thompson added 14 and 12 points, respectively.

GCU returns to home turf on Wednesday night when the University of the Sciences pays a visit at 6:00 p.m.
