Lakewood, N.J. - The University of the Sciences marched into the Georgian Court University Wellness Center Wednesday evening and dismissed the host-Lions in efficient fashion, 71-42, to secure its 11th consecutive victory.
The Devils, currently ranked #13 nationally in the D2SIDA women's poll, coast to 18-2 on the year (10-1 CACC). Georgian Court drops its fourth in a row, falling to 3-15 overall (1-10 CACC).
The home team stayed relatively close in the beginning, trailing only by five (19-14) after the first quarter of action. Unfortunately for the Lions, USciences dominated the next two frames by scores of 15-7 and 25-6, respectively, to take a healthy 59-27 lead heading into the final period. GCU outscored its foe, 15-12, in the stanza, but that proved to be not nearly enough to dent the deficit.
Both teams shot less than 40% from the floor, but the victors dominated the offensive glass, resulting in 21 rebounds and 16 second-chance points. The Devils also took advantage of 17 GCU miscues to net 17 points off turnovers.
Alex Thomas (Jr.-Hockessin, Del.) led the scoring column for USciences with 19 points in the win, followed by 10 each from
Colleen Walsh (Sr.-Downingtown, Pa.) and
Laura Trisch (Sr.-Doylestown, Pa.). Walsh also dished five assist in the triumph.
Destiny Thompson poured in a team-best 12 points in the effort.
Jess Placher collected nine points while
Carna Prokic contributed seven points and eight helpers.
GCU takes to the road Saturday in a 1:00 p.m. conference contest at Nyack College.
