Playoff Run Halted by Post University as Eagles Eliminate Lions, 3-1, in CACC Volleyball Semifinals

Lakewood, N.J.- Georgian Court University's volleyball season came to an abrupt halt Saturday afternoon as the Lions dropped  a 3-1 decision at home to Post University in the 2018 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) semifinals, played in the GCU Wellness Center Arena.

The Eagles (22-10), serving as the top seed in North Division, move on to Sunday's championship game to face the tournament's top overall seed, Holy Family University (28-5), after the Tigers upended #2N Caldwell University, 3-0 (25-8, 25-12, 25-18) in Saturday's opening match.

Post attacked early by taking the first set from the Lions, 25-20, before GCU countered with a 26-24 thriller in set two. The Eagles created some momentum in the third frame with a 25-17 triumph before running away with a 25-20 final in the fourth, which included a late 8-0 run by the victors.

Led by Madison Hunziker's (Sr.-Sacramento, Calif.) 24 kills off 48 attempts (.458), the Eagles registered an overall hitting percentage of .264 (49 kills) in the win. Brianna Root (Sr.-Bristol, Conn.) dished all 48 of Post's assists while Sarah Seger (Sr.-Yorkstown Heights, N.Y.) led the way with her 13 digs.

For the Lions, three-time All-CACC selection, Peggy Rosario, closed out her illustrious collegiate career with a team-high 12 kills, followed by Aubrey Binkley and Shana Rayside with 10 apiece. Ashley Pierson and Jaime Sweeney shared the setting duties with 19 and 15 helpers, respectively. Emily McCurley closed out her first year as a Lion in stellar fashion with a personal season-high 25 digs.
