Lakewood, N.J.- After opening the 2018-19 campaign with a pair of road contests this past weekend, Georgian Court University took to the home hardwood for the first time Wednesday evening as the Lions welcomed Kutztown University to the Wellness Center in a NCAA Division II women's basketball showdown.
With both squads entering the game with 0-2 marks, it would be the visiting Golden Bears that found the win column first as KU authored a 76-59 victory on the night. Kutztown (1-2) was victorious in all four quarters as the road team reached its ceiling with a 24-lead of 74-50 with 4:36 remaining in regulation.
Rylee Derr (So.-Lititz, Pa.), thanks to her seven three-pointers, topped all players with 28 points in 30 minutes for the victors.
Brianna Tarabocchia (Jr.-Woodcliff Lake, N.J.) poured in 14 points and snared a game-best eight boards.
Karen Lapkiewicz (Jr.-Southampton, Pa.) added 12 points in the win while
Kalee Fuegel (R-Sr.-Philadelphia, Pa.) provided a balanced attack consisting of 10 points and game-highs of six steals and five assists.
Destiny Thompson highlighted the GCU scoring line with 17 points, shooting 8-for-14 from the floor.
Safiyyah Lee added 10 points and a team-leading seven boards while
Jada Atchison and
Ivona Krakic contributed nine points apiece.
