Men's Hoops Falls Just Short in 80-79 Overtime Defeat at Bloomsburg

Bloomsburg, Pa. - Still looking for its first victory of the 2018-19 campaign, Georgian Court University came oh so close Saturday afternoon as the Lions dropped an agonizing 80-79 overtime decision to host-Bloomsburg University.

The Huskies, playing its first contest of the season, escaped the first half with a 31-28 advantage after trailing by as many as 10 points (26-16) with 4:39 remaining before intermission. Bloomsburg blitzed Georgian Court with a blazing 15-2 run heading into the break.

BU expanded its surplus to 48-42 at the 11:35 mark of the second half, and owned a five-point margin (52-47) as late as 8:06, before a Will Osborn three-pointer (7:14) capped a 6-0 GCU spurt and put the road team ahead by one (53-52).

Neither squad secured an advantage of more than three points the rest of regulation. With the score knotted at 67 with 0:34 to go, and the Lions ahead by one (69-68) with 27 ticks remaining, an Austin Harriott (Jr.-Philadelphia, Pa.) free throw at 0:01 saved Bloomsburg's bacon, forcing the extra session.

Aside from a 71-71 tie at 4:23, the Huskies (1-0) owned the lead the entire overtime, outscoring the Lions by a slim 11-10 margin en route to an opening day triumph.

Ky Mauras (Jr.-Reading, Pa.) topped the victors with 28 points on the day, shooting 11-for-20 from the floor, while dishing a team-best five assists. Travis Elmore (Fr.-Tobyhanna Pa.) contributed 10 points (5-for-8 FG) in the win.

For the second time in three games, Caleb Bowser paced the Lions with 28 points, which included four three-pointers and a 10-for-27 effort from the floor. Kim Speller supplied a career-high 17 points for GCU while Justin Figueroa registered 12 points of his own.

Bryce Council led all players with his seven helpers. Matt Ringel did the same in the rebound column with a game-high 10 boards.

After four-straight on the road, Georgian Court (0-3) finally takes to the home hardwood as the Lions host Assumption College Tuesday night at 6:00 p.m.
