Melbourne, Fla.- On the final day of the two-day Florida Tech Thanksgiving Tournament, the Georgian Court University men's basketball squad dropped a 73-67 decision in Saturday's consolation game vs. the University of Puerto Rico-Bayamon.
The Vaqueros (4-1), after closing the first half with an 11-point cushion (40-29), were able to hold off the surging Lions in the second stanza. Georgian Court outscored Bayamon, 38-35, over the final 20 minutes, but the run would not be enough to overtake the eventual victors.
Luis Gonzalez paced Puerto Rico with his team-best 19 points over 28 minutes.
Jesus Marquez dropped in 12 points to go along with four assists and a team-leading eight boards.
Evander Ortiz (five assists) and
Joel Curbelo provided 10 points apiece in the win.
For the third time this season,
Caleb Bowser eclipsed the 20-point plateau as the junior drained a game-high 22 points, going 10-for-19 from the floor in the effort.
Bryce Council contributed a personal season-best with 19 points while
Kim Speller cleared the glass of 13 rebounds, leading all players in the process.
Georgian Court (1-6) returns home to host Molloy College on Saturday, December 1 (2:00 p.m.) in another non-conference match-up.
