Lakewood, N.J. - Up by six after the first quarter, and holding a 32-25 advantage at intermission, Georgian Court University had everything going its way entering the second stanza Tuesday evening vs. Holy Family University in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) women's basketball action.
The visiting Tigers proceeded to tactically tear away at the deficit over the remaining 20 minutes of action, resulting in a 77-59 runaway victory over the host-Lions to give HFU its tenth victory of the campaign (10-14, 9-7 CACC).
A 10-2 run to start the third quarter provided Holy Family a 35-34 lead 3:04 into the frame. The two foes would go back and forth the rest of the period as an
Alexis Hofstaedter (Sr.-Richboro, Pa.) three-pointer at the horn provided the largest point differential of the session, assuring that HFU would enter the fourth up by four (54-50).
Things would get out of hand very quickly in the last quarter of action as the Tigers would trounce the hometown Lions, 23-9, to put an anticlimactic finish to an otherwise competitive cat fight.
Turnovers continue to pester the Lions as 20 GCU miscues resulted in 23 points for the victors.
"We had some great moments but, in all honesty, I was very disappointed at the overall effort ... we just lack consistency," shared GCU head coach Jazz Perazic. "We had such a great crowd and beautiful atmosphere in our arena tonight. If every player can't find a way to get excited to play under such great circumstances, then we still have a long way to go before we can be considered a serious contender in the CACC."
Five Tigers netted ten-plus points in the divisional triumph, led by
Anjelai Hayes (Fr.-Woodbury, N.J.) with 19.
Casey Schweitzer (So.-Lagrangeville, N.Y.) contributed a balanced line consisting of 15 points, five assists and five steals in 40 minutes of action.Â
Alba Herrero-Gomez paced the Lions with a personal season-high of 15 points to go along with six boards.
Jess Placher poured in 14 points, including four three-pointers, while
Jaelyn Tweedy provided nine points and nine rebounds.
GCU (4-19, 2-14 CACC) take to the road this Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. conference contest at Bloomfield College.
