Lakewood, N.J. - Georgian Court University, hosting its annual National Girls & Women in Sports Day celebration, welcomed Post University to the GCU Wellness Center Saturday afternoon in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) women's hoops action.
Aside from an initial GCU free throw to start the game (9:45), the visiting Eagles owned a share of the lead the entire way as Post coasted to a 77-67 conference victory to improve to 5-14 (4-9 CACC) on the season. The Lions limp to 4-17 (2-12 overall).
After being outscored by a 20-7 margin after the first quarter of play, and Post building a game-high 17-point surplus with 8:30 remaining in the second (24-7), GCU still managed to outscore the visitors, 24-21, in the frame, and 21-15 in the third, but could not completely cut the entire deficit in the process.
Jasmyne Fogle (Gr.-Bridgeport, Conn.) soared for the Eagles with a team-best 22 points after shooting 8-for-13 from the field.
Lauren Chambers (Jr.-Lebanon, Pa.) filed away 16 points and six helpers for Post while
Ann Marie Nelson (So.-Draper, Utah) nailed 11 points in the victory.
Collecting a double-digit scoring total for the eighth time out her last nine games, reigning CACC Player of the Week, Destiny Thompson, tallied a game-high 27 points on the day, nailing 11-of-16 attempts from the floor.
Jess Placher enjoyed a 13-point performance for the Lions.
Georgian Court takes to the road for its next outing Wednesday at Chestnut Hill College for a CACC divisional match-up. Tip is slated for 6:00 p.m. The Griffins escaped The Well with a slim 93-90 triumph in the teams' last meeting back on December 30.
