Softball Secures .500 Mark Down South as Lions Post Saturday Split vs. Molloy College

Clermont, Fla. –Georgian Court University completed its annual Florida spring training road trip with a doubleheader split vs. regional foe, Molloy College, Saturday afternoon as the Lions conclude the 2018 PFX Games with a 6-6 record in 12 overall games down south.

With a .500 finish, the Lions (8-9) return home with its best showing in the Sunshine State since posting a 10-2 mark in 2012.

The day did not start on a high note for the Lions as Molloy (5-3) dismissed Georgian Court, 8-0, in six innings of action. Kaitlyn Snyder shredded the Georgian Court defense with a 4-for-4 performance atop the Molloy lineup, which included a lead-off long ball to start the contest, followed by a second solo shot in the third by the slugging second baseman. Molloy proceeded to add six more runs, courtesy of 11 hits and four GCU miscues in the field.

Jenna Turato would go the distance to earn the pitching victory, permitting just four hits (6 K) over six frames of work. Taylor Baloga took the loss for the Lions, permitting three runs (3 ER) on five hits and a free pass (1 K) in 3.2 innings of action.

The nightcap proved to be much friendlier for GCU as the Lions plated two tallies in the initial frame, courtesy of a Molloy wild pitch and a Marissa Trezza (2-for-4) RBI single.

Molloy answered with a run in both the bottom of the first and the second to knot the score at 2-2. Georgian Court received a spark from one of its newest faces as Kassandra Tibbitts launch a 3-2 pitch over the left-center wall to give GCU a 3-2 lead, and the freshman her first collegiate home run.

Samantha Reilly (1-for-3) and Malaya Black (3-for-3) added ribbie singles later in the frame to provide the Lions a lead they would not relinquish en route to the 5-4 win.. Jessica O'Neil, coming on in relief for GCU, earned her fourth win of the year (4-3) by firing four frames of one-hit ball (2 BB, 2K).

The Lions now return north and will next take the field on Wednesday with a regional double-dip at Adelphi University. First pitch is slated for 2:30 p.m.
