Lakewood, N.J. - After trailing by four at intermission, the Fighting Scots of Edinboro University scorched host-Georgian Court University by a 10-2 count in the second stanza to escape with a 15-11 triumph Tuesday afternoon in the first-ever meeting between the two programs.
With a slim 5-4 lead at the 7:37 mark of the first half, the Lions (2-5) ran away on a 4-1 run to enter intermission wih a 9-5 advantage. After GCU's
Taylor Bauerband netted the first goal after the break (28:55) to make the score 10-5 GCU, Edinboro went on a 5-0 tear to knot the game at 10-all with 20:55 left.
Samantha Fernandez snapped the stalemate with her team-best fifth goal of the year at 17:27 to give Georgian Court its final lead of the afternoon as the Fighting Scots (3-1) closed the contest running away with their second 5-0 stretch of day.
Georgian Court despite the setback, outshot its foe by a 46-29 margin (33-22 shots-on-goal). The difference was in goal as Edinboro netminder,
Candace McDole (Fr.-Maple Ridge, B.C.), registered 22 saves in the stellar showing. GCU's
Amber Neumann pocketed seven denials in the complete-game effort.
Bauerband and
Arianna Quinlan followed Fernandez in the Lions' scoring column with two goals apiece while
Xena Valenzuela provided a goal and two helpers.
Anna Leva (Fr.-Macedon, N.Y.) led the way for the victors with seven goals and an assist.
Sophie DePalma (Fr.-Rochester, N.Y.) rallied for four goals while
Hannah Fitzgerald (Sr.-Oswego, N.Y.) followed with a hat trick.
The Lions now remain idle until Wednesday, March 21 when GCU kicks off CACC conference play at long-time rival, Jefferson. First draw is set for 4:00 p.m.
