Jeffrey Galatola goal at the 2:20 mark of overtime completed a thrilling comeback for Georgian Court University as the Lions bested host-Saint Thomas Aquinas College, improving to 4-3 on the year Saturday afternoon in NCAA Division II men's lacrosse action.
The Spartans (1-3) entered intermission with a 5-3 advantage and held on to a slim one-goal surplus (7-6) after three frames before the Lions outscored the home team, 5-4, in the fourth to force the always-tense extra session.
Galatola's game-winning tally marked the senior's team-best fifth of the contest.
Brandon Razler and
Michael Saladino contributed hat tricks in the GCU triumph. The Lions out-shot the Spartans, 44-28, and produced ten more shots-on-goal (29-19).
Austin Geissel upped his goalkeeping record to 4-2 on the year after registering eight saves in 61:40.
The Lions sit idle until next Saturday, March 24, when GCU journeys to the University of the District of Columbia for a 12:00 p.m. faceoff.
