Washington, D.C. - Seven fourth quarter tallies erased an 11-9 deficit as the University of the District Columbia vetoed visiting Georgian Court, 16-14, Saturday afternoon in NCAA Division II men's lacrosse action.
The two squads exited the first frame knotted at 3-3.
Tanner Lee connected on a
Brandon Razler feed with 11 ticks remaining before intermission to snap an 8-8 stalemate and provide the visitors a one-goal advantage heading into the break.
GCU ripped two of the three goals netted in a low-scoring third to take the aforementioned 11-9 surplus before the Firebirds (7-1) blazed the trail to victory by slinging the first five goals of the final stanza. Goals by
Patrick Quinn and Lee put the Lions to within one at 14-13 before UDC connected on two key insurance tallies over the final 3:51 of regulation to secure the hard-fought win.
The Firebirds launched 55 shots (41 on frame) compared to 40 (27) for Georgian Court.
Nikolas Lund-Murray registered the win in net for the victors with 13 saves over 60:00.
Austin Geissel did all he could to keep the Lions in contention with an astounding 25 saves in the complete-game effort.
Quinn put away four goals for GCU while
Jeffrey Galatola authored a hat trick and an assist.
John Kicak and Lee each connected on a pair.
