Lakewood, N.J. - The Georgian Court University women's lacrosse squad inched one game closer to the .500 mark (4-5), and improved to 2-0 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) competition, as the Lions defeated visiting Dominican College in a high-scoring affair, 21-11, Tuesday afternoon.

With the game knotted at 2-2 just 5:50 into the initial half, GCU exploded for a 6-0 run to provide the home team an 8-2 cushion with 18:34 left in the first. The Lions would continue to pepper the pipes for the remainder of the stanza as Georgian Court coasted into intermission up by a 13-4 count.

The Lions opened the second session by burying six of the frame's first nine tallies to increase its surplus to 19-7 with 12:06 to go. The Lady Chargers (1-6, 0-1 CACC) battled to the final whistle as the visitors rallied to net four consecutive goals and cut the deficit to 19-11 with 5:08 remaining on the clock.

GCU dominated the attempted shots column by a 46-22 count, including a 37-17 shots-on-goal advantage. Nicole Barbella, who earned a place on the CACC Weekly Honor Roll earlier in the day, made an early bid for additional accolades as the junior shined with four goals and five helpers on the afternoon. The tandem of Samantha Fernandez and Xena Valenzuela each offered four goal and two assists. Madison Heck garnered a hat trick while Arianna Quinlan drilled three goals and dished a trio of assists.

Amber Neumann complied five saves over 55:38 to improve to 4-5 in the GCU goal. Dominican keeper, Cara Moran, stood her ground with 16 saves in the hard-fought, complete-game effort.
