Clermont, Fla. - Tuesday's results did not quite match the success of the previous day as Georgian Court University softball dropped decisions to Le Moyne College and #6 West Virginia Wesleyan College on day three of the 2018 PFX Spring Games.
A four-spot in the top of the first inning, and an insurance run in the second, is all that was needed for Le Moyne as the Dolphins (9-2) coasted to the eventual 5-2 regional triumph.
The Lions plated a run in the home half of the initial frame, courtesy of
Malaya Black's first collegiate home run, a screaming liner over the wall in right-center. A
Samantha Reilly two-bagger to left-center in the fourth brought around Black from second, who had reached on a single up the middle before advancing on a stolen base.
Peyton Bellrose (4.0 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 4 K) earned the win in the circle for Le Moyne while
Lauren Nichols supplied support with the successful save (3.0 IP, 2 H, 2 BB, 5 K).
Jessica O'Neil (2-3) was saddled with the loss for GCU (2.0 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 4 ER, 1 K).
In the nightcap, the Bobcats (4-4) launched a three-run dinger in the bottom of the first, and added another tally in the second, to set the stage for its 5-0 defeat of Georgian Court. The Lions collected five hits in the setback, led by a pair off the bat of
Caitlin Hughes.
Hannah Vet went the distance for WVWC to earn the shutout, win (7.0 IP, 5 H, 2 BB, 8 K) whileÂ
Marissa Trezza (0-1) registered the loss in the start for GCU (1.2 IP, 5 H, 4 R 4 ER, 1 K).
The Lions (5-6) enjoy a much-needed day off on Wednesday before returning to the diamond Thursday afternoon vs. LIU Post (2:00 p.m.) and University of Minnesota-Duluth (7:00 p.m.).
