Newark, Del.- The Georgian Court University men's lacrosse program achieved a new high-water mark Wednesday afternoon as the Lions took down Wilmington University on the road, 17-6, providing GCU a six-win season (6-6) for the first time in the three-year history of the team.
The victory also keeps the Lions unblemished in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play while the Wildcats, currently in their initial season of competition, fall to 2-7 (0-2 CACC) with the setback.
A six-spot in both the first and second periods of action provided Georgian Court a healthy 12-2 lead heading into intermission. The Lions edged the home team, 5-4, in the second half to coast to the always-important conference triumph.
Tanner Lee contributed a team-best eight points in the win, which included two goals and six assists.
Patrick Quinn tallied two goals and dished three helpers for five overall points.
Michael Saladino, the reigning CACC Player of the Week, netted four goals while
Jeffery Galatola authored a hat trick for the victors.
Austin Geissel put in 35:16 of action in net for the Lions, collecting four saves to improve to 6-5 in the cage.
GCU now prepares for its final regular-season home contest this Saturday morning with an 11:00 a.m. conference game vs. Dominican College. The Lions will host 2018 Senior Day prior to face-off when the team honors seniors Galatola, Saladino and
John Kicak during special pre-game ceremony.
