Philadelphia, Pa. - Chestnut Hill College gave guest Georgian Court University quite the scare Friday afternoon as the visiting Lions were pushed to the limit, hanging on for the ever-so-slim 14-13 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) triumph.
GCU remains perfect in conference play with a unblemished mark of 7-0 vs. CACCÂ foes (9-6 overall) while the visiting Griffins go to 7-5 on the season 4-2 CACC).
The home team glided to an initial 3-1 lead 7:48 into the game before Georgian Court registered eight of the contest's next 10 tallies to build a 9-5 surplus with 5:36 remaining before intermission. Chestnut Hill, not to be outdone on its home turf, rattled off a 5-0 run to regain the lead at 10-9 with 24:31 left in regulation.
Georgian Court, not used to playing from behind in conference contests, immediately responded with a 4-1 spurt to leapfrog the Griffins and jump ahead on the scoreboard, 13-11, with 12:20 to go.Â
Chestnut Hill ripped two unanswered goals at the 6:11 and 4:51 marks to knot the score at 13-13. That set the stage for GCU'sÂ
Taylor Bauerband who proceeded to bury the game-winner with 3:21 left on the clock. The shot was not only the senior's game-leading sixth goal of the game, but also the 100th of her decorated collegiate career.
Arianna Quinlan poured in three goals in the victory while
Xena Valenzuela collected a pair of goals and helpers.
Madison Heck, the reigning CACCÂ Rookie of the Week, dished three assists and scooped up nine ground balls.
Amber Neumann improved to 9-6 in the GCU net with six saves in the complete game triumph. Chestnut Hill goalkeeper,
Valeria Amaya, denied 17 Georgian Court shots in the hard-fought battle.Â
The Lions next travel to Post University on Wednesday, April 18 for another CACCÂ match-up. First draw is slated for 2:00 p.m.Â
