Lakewood, N.J.- Taking the field for the first time this week, Georgian Court University breezed to an 18-5 home win vs. Caldwell University as both squads battled through gale force winds on this windy Wednesday of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) women's lacrosse action.
Owning a slim 3-2 lead 6:45 into the contest, the Lions (5-6, 3-0 CACC), rattled off seven unanswered goals to take a commanding 10-2 advantage with 2:03 left in the half. Both teams exchanged one additional tally to make the score 11-3 GCU heading into intermission.
With the scoreboard reading 11-4 Lions 6:37 into the second session, Georgian Court peppered the Cougars with five straight tallies to take an insurmountable lead of 16-4 with 14:09 left to play.
The victors dominated the shots column with a 45-10 surplus, including a 35-10 shots-on-goal advantage.
Xena Valenzuela led the way in the win with her game-best nine points, which included seven goals and two assists.
Samantha Fernandez provided five goals for the Lions while
Nicole Barbella contributed a goal and four helpers.
Amber Neumann earned the win between the GCU pipes as the junior keeper pocketed five saves in the always-important conference victory.
Nancy Benedetto did all she could in net to keep Caldwell (1-5, 1-1 CACC) close as the keeper made 17 saves in the Cougars' setback.
Georgian Court returns to action on Friday with a trip to Jefferson as the two conference rivals reunite at 4:30 p.m.
